Design IP: License Valuation Analytics
Design licenses are a more constrained form of IP than patents, and as such they allow a more consistent and analytical method for pricing. Using Medici™, our proprietary methodology, deals can be priced more rationally based on each side’s understanding of the observable markets for products incorporating the licensed technology. Our analysis applies “real options” theory. Using our Medicitm, analytical software, both sides can negotiate the deal based on explicit risk matching, so that they can more readily agree on IP valuation and the contract terms.
Our Medici™ technology is used to rigorously calculate the expected net present value of a wide variety of licensing deals. The model also allows identification and management of either party’s perceived risks in a deal. Using this model, deal makers can tradeoff upfront fees, option exercise prices, per design fees and royalties to help each side manage risk and rapidly come to terms. For a detailed presentation of our pricing analytics, embodied in Medicitm software, read our presentation
This briefing explains the basis for our model and the benefits you can gain by applying Medicitm to your own deals. Naturally, Medicitm applies to either potential licensees or licensors.
